Candles are a big part of my life. My home isn’t a home unless each room has a different scent which compliments the other scents in the house perfectly. When we moved in to our flat in May, I went to the candle shop in Stratford Westfield and picked up some Yankee Candles which I felt were really fresh and fitting for summer. Fun game: do a shot every time I say ‘fresh’ in this post.
Fluffy Towels is my all-time favourite Yankee Candle fragrance and isn’t exclusive to summer as I burn this one all year round. It smells like clean laundry and as someone who spends a long time in the detergent aisle of the supermarket sniffing the conditioners making sure we pick just the right one. We burn this candle in our living room (and also have the Clean Cotton reed diffuser in there too!) to make the room smell fresh, clean and pleasant for when people walk in.
I’m not the kind of person who likes really suffocating, sweet candles. For example, Fireside Treats is one that everyone raves about when Christmas comes around but I personally can’t stand. I find that these scents are just too heavy for me and thus, I prefer something that smells extremely fresh and clean and this candle is exactly that. It’s not a heavy fragrance that sticks in your throat, making all your snacks taste of it; it is a light, summery candle which is just up my alley and hence why it is my all-time favourite.
I’m quite obsessed with herby smells, and when I was in the Yankee Store I was trying to find one that smelled like basil, as that’s one of my all-time favourite smells. However, Yankee either don’t have a basil candle or they didn’t have it in that shop – but they did have Wild Mint. As soon as I sniffed it, I knew it was a kitchen smell. I’m not sure how to describe this scent other than it’s very refreshing and clean, and just smells like fresh mint that you’d pick from the garden. Don’t be mistaken, this candle does not smell like peppermint, or toothpaste. It smells like a glorious mojito and I’m completely in love with it.
However, it’s definitely a summer scent. I’m not sure if I’d burn this one all year round. It’s extremely summery; one whiff has me dreaming of skipping down a beach and sipping a boozy beverage on a pier. It also has a nice earthiness to it, with a musky base note. It’s crisp, cool and bracing. I believe this was a new scent for Yankee for the summer and I hope it sticks around all year around; I’d love to re-buy this one next summer!
Coastal Living is the candle that we burn in our bathroom and not only is it the most lovely colour, it also smells delicious. It has a very floral scent to it, but it’s not an over-powering, Grandmother’s house kind of of floral despite having notes of lavender. The smell of sea salt and moss really cuts the insipid floral scent and makes the fragrance extremely fresh and exactly how you’d imagine a cosy beach hut to smell. Weirdly enough, this smells like how Cornwall smells to me!
This is part of a new range from Yankee which is called the Coastal Living range, which includes scents like Driftwood and Sea Air, which are also some scents from Yankee which I love. In fact, this whole range felt like it was designed for me. Each fragrance is so fresh and clean smelling, and that’s why I love to have this burning in the bathroom because it makes a room that can smell a bit… unclean smell extremely clean.
What are your favourite Yankee Candles, for the summer or just for all year around? Will you be picking up any of these now?
