Some of you may not be aware of this but NYX Cosmetics has launched in Debenhams this month. Debenhams is one of my favourite places to shop beauty as it has so many of my beloved brands in once place, like Kat Von D and Too Faced! Now, it’s added another personal favourite brand of mine to it’s ranks, NYX!
The lovely people over at Debenhams sent me over some bits of NYX’s range to test out, some of it old favourites and some of it brand new and exclusive to Debenhams. I haven’t had a chance to test out much of this stuff yet as UPS helpfully lost my parcel for a couple of days (I’ve used one eyeshadow out of all the ones I’ve been given) but I thought I’d give you guys an overview of what I’ve been sent, and what I make of it just from swatches. If you’d like a more in-depth review of any of these products, you can comment on this post or drop me a line on Twitter and I’ll happily add that to my ever-growing list of October/November content! I was very lucky to receive 4 lip products, 3 palettes and a primer from NYX, so here’s a brief overview (and some pretty pictures) of those!
NYX Pore Filling Primer
I don’t really talk a lot about primers on Chloe Alice Lily, but I do use a variation of primers and I use one almost everyday (sometimes I forget and regret it later!). Most of the primers I own are pore filling, so when I opened my package to see this, I was so excited. I suffer quite badly with large pores on my nose and on my under-eye area, so I always use a pore filling primer on those areas and the use a hydrating primer on the rest of my face. My favourite pore-filling primers are the Porefessional by Benefit, and the Smashbox Pore Minimising Primer. From what I can tell, the NYX primer is going to be a really nice substitute for those at half the price. I swatched it on the back of my hand and it felt very smooth, quite light and I loved the way that it sank into the skin. I can’t wait to use this one on my face and under some make-up!
NYX Contour Intuitive Eye & Face Palette
This is a very interesting palette from NYX, which is very daring. It contains 6 eyeshadows, 2 highlighters and a blush. I have used one of these shades (it’s the only product I’ve tried out on my face) and it was the cool-toned grey-purple on the second row, because I’d never owned a colour like that before and it really intrigued me. It was really soft to apply and not too chalky, with excellent pigment. I wanted it to be quite subtle, and I think this would be a perfect crease colour for a day when I just want to do a subtle wing. I’m more of a warm-toned eye shadow girl, but for some reason I think this shade really suits me. As for the rest of the eyeshadows, they all swatch really nicely and I think they’ll be a nice addition to my ever-growing eyeshadow palette collection. For me, the real star of this palette is the pink-toned highlighter. It swatches so gorgeously and it’s completely striking. I can’t wait to wear this one. The blush is nice and really reminds me of Bobbi Brown Apricot, so I would definitely say this is a dupe alert.
NYX Strobe of Genius Palette
I love a good pun so this palette initially stood out to me for it’s name. However, it’s beautiful colours and exceptional pigmentation didn’t take long to draw me in. This palette is so diverse and I think it would work on a multitude of skin-tones. Even if, like me, you fear the darker shades might be too dark to be a highlighter on your pale skin, the other shades in the palette will definitely work for you. For example, I’m really excited to try that frosted purple shade in the top middle. Bad beauty blogger alert: but I literally don’t know the difference between strobing and highlighting (is there one? Have I been confused over this phenomenon for nothing?) but I’ll be using these how I use highlighters. They are all very pigmented and swatch really nicely (as you can see) and I can’t wait to get a brush and get stuck into applying these on my face until I have sparkly skin that would rival Edward Cullen’s.
NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette ‘Cool Neutrals’
Personally, if I were to buy a make-up palette, I would not choose Cool Neutrals, and the Warm Neutral NYX palette looks like it would suit me so much more. However, I am not deterred. I am going to try out this palette – which is chocked full of stunning shades. 16 to be exact. The top 8 look like they would suit me the most as they’re all lighter in tone but I will excitedly try them all and hope to be pleasantly surprised and that they will suit me but I thought this with Naked 2 and that ended up being a bitter disappointment (not due to quality, but due to my stupid yellow-toned skin). However, that matte, deep purple looks really beautiful so I am forever hopeful. All of the shadows are really buttery and not chalky in the slightest and swatch so beautifully.
NYX Lip Suede in Downtown Beauty
Again, this is a product that I can’t say will be universally flattering. It’s a true brown, which is a shade I’ve been coveting for ages and really hope suits me. Again, I am a little doubtful whether it will. However, I will obviously try it out. I already own some Lip Suede shades and so I know I love the long-wearing and comfortable formula. If you want a more detailed review of these lipsticks, I mentioned them in my ‘Best of the Drugstore’ post on Chloe Alice Lily, so if you’re interested on how I find them and how incredibly long-wearing they are (and not to mention affordable!) then you can check out that post.
I love the selection of shades of lipsticks that the ladies at Debenhams sent out to me – they’re so autumnal and perfect for this time of the year. Exotic is no exception. It’s a very browny-red shade, which I think would be universally flattering. When I first tried the Lip Lingeries, I wasn’t a huge fan. I think I may have gotten a dud of Satin Ribbon, because the formula would not sit on my lips properly and just made them look wrinkly and gross – kind of like granny lips. However, Exotic seems different. It doesn’t feel as aerated and goes on much smoother (well, on the back of my hand) and doesn’t seem as whipped. It sits more like a lipstick, not a weirdly tinted and heavy primer.
|L-R: Exotic, Budapest, Strawberry Parfait|
I love the Soft Matte Lip Creams and this shade is so freaking beautiful and I can’t wait to wear it. It’s the most amazing shade for autumn, just like Exotic, and it’s perfect for everyday wear as it’s so long wearing. I still have the swatch on my hand from yesterday, despite showering this morning, washing my hands loads of times and even taking it off with make up remover. I am a little concerned that it may stain my lips but my other soft matte lip creams don’t stain at all, so maybe I just didn’t scrub enough.
NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait
This is the only product from the bundle that I hate, and that’s just because I’m not a lip gloss girl. While I’ve heard from lip gloss lovers that the Butter Glosses are some of the best you can buy, they’re just not for me. This seems really pigmented but I’m not really into my bright pinks at all, really. It’s quite a sticky formula which my hair would not agree with on windy days. I’m not saying I think this lipstick is bad; I just don’t think that lip glosses are really for me. I will try this on and see how it looks because I could be pleasantly surprised but I will most likely be giving this to a gloss loving friend.
I am completely over the moon that NYX is now in Debenhams and I can shop my favourite brands all in one place. I’m also completely in love with all of these products and I am so happy to have the chance to try them all out. What are some of your favourite products from NYX?
