As many of you may know if you follow me on any form of social media then you know in less than one week it’s not only my 20th birthday, but also our trip to Paris! We are only going for three days so I’m still deciding which make up palette to take with me and here are my three favourites, and the three I’m stuck between!
The Urban Decay Naked Basics
I’ve talked about this palette so much on Chloe Alice Lily because of how useful it is. It’s just a palette full of browny-matte shades, which are literally my favourite shades to wear. It’s a tiny little palette – it’s literally smaller than my iPhone – so it’s perfect for travelling and you can easily make a simple day-time look from it, as well as a smoky night look thanks to the deep, matte black shade of ‘Creep’. Whenever I go away, I always take this one with me. It’s perfect for short trips and when I take longer ones, I just take one of the other palettes that also features in this edit. My favourite shades from this palette are Foxy, for an all-over lid shade, and Naked 2 provides a perfect subtle crease and transition colour.
Another great thing about this palette is how long it lasts. I use the colours in this palette at least 4 times a week (even if I’m just doing a subtle wing, I’ll always pop Naked 2 in the crease) and I haven’t hit pan on any one of the shades yet. I haven’t even really made any noticeable dents. To be fair, I find this with most of the Naked palettes – maybe I’m just really light-handed when it comes to eyeshadows! This palette is a staple in my travel make-up kit, and also a staple in my everyday routine. If you’re looking for a really simple palette filled with shades you’ll use everyday, then I really recommend checking out Naked Basics.
Charlotte Tilbury Golden Goddess
If you saw my ‘Best of Charlotte Tilbury’ post, then you will have seen that this quad from Charlotte Tilbury got spoken of very highly, and so obviously it had to be included in my miniature palette edit. While I’m definitely a matte girl and this quad has nothing but shimmers, the shades in here are so beautiful and I use them all so regularly. Especially for travelling, this palette is perfect. It was the only palette I took to Gran Canaria with me in December and I managed to get a week’s worth of looks out of it. My favourite shade in this palette is the beautiful, pale gold which makes a beautiful all-over-the-lid shade or an inner corner or brow highlight. I’ve also used it on my cheeks before, it’s that pretty! The diversity in this palette is lacking but you can still get some really pretty looks out of it.
I love the packaging. It’s sleek, golden and makes you feel like you’re holding something luxurious (which you are, at £42 a pop these palettes don’t come cheap) and it’s literally the perfect size for traveling. I’ve lasted a week only using this palette before and while the looks were limiting, when you’re on holiday you don’t want to be slathering a lot of make up on your face so it’s perfect for that -and these shades really compliment glowy skin so they are perfect for that summer getaway.
Too Faced Totally Cute
This is the newest addition to my miniature palette collection and it’s definitely up there with being one of my favourites. Johnny picked this one up for me in TK Maxx for a bargain price of £12. As far as I’m aware, it’s not available on Too Faced anymore, but our local TK Maxx had about 15, so you might be able to pick it up in there if you really like the look of it. A lot of people give Too Faced a really hard time about their eyeshadow pigmentation but the experience I’ve had with their shadows has been really good – but then again I have only tried the Chocolate Bar palette and this one, the Totally Cute.
This palette has one of my all-time favourite eyeshadows in it and that is Shooting Star. This shade is honestly the most pigmented, beautiful golden shade that I have ever come across. I even prefer it to Lime Crime’s Aura, which if you know me, then you’ll know is a huge statement to make. Shooting Star makes this whole palette worth £12 for me. One swipe and your eyelid will be shining like the sun and it’s perfect to use in cut creases. I also really like the bright colours in this palette, like Clover and I Heart TF. Those shades are perfect if you want a bit more drama in your holiday look, but other shades like Bunny Fufu and Chocolate Donut make this palette perfectly versatile, as you can do a far more toned down look with this one too. I think it’s a shame that Too Faced discontinued this palette but if you see it in TK Maxx, definitely pick it up!
